As someone who works on an open access journal, I have more respect than most for the labor involved in moving a small platform. Congratulations to Naomi Ashford, Daniel Kestler, and the rest of the team at Collaborative Librarianship for their first issue on the Digital Commons platform.
And thanks too for the invitation to share "What Collaboration Means to Me." I have been reading and writing a lot about infrastructures lately, and I believe more and more that the invisible work of building them is what matters most. I appreciated the chance to say a little about that in this new issue.
Infrastructure work rarely gets credit, in journals or in libraries. Someone keeps the servers running, someone answers upset emails, someone decides what breaks and what holds. A journal that survives a platform move owes that survival to people whose names rarely appear on the masthead. That is the collaboration the essay tries to name, and it is worth naming again here.
